The task for DN26 was:
Create something minimalistic. And this time we mean it!

DN26 minimal
By Meteer
This tune was made using a new working process of mine. Original sounds come from Vermona perfourmer, was sampled into Elektron Machinedrum and processed/sequenced. Then recorded into Ableton and further processed/arranged. The secret weapon is Machinedrum. Low track count keeps this soft track minimal.

I listened to Aphex Twin’s beautifully minimal SAW II album to get inspiration for this piece. Four instances of Massive, a minimum of drum sounds, and a couple of vocal samples about a shark attack is about as minimal as I can get.

The plan was to use the same concept as my DN25 track, but take it one step further towards minimalism. The result turned out more minimal than DN25, but was still kind of not minimalistic, hence the name. I added string sections to intro and extro (couldn’t keep my hands off…). Soprano voice comes from Vocaloid Prima. Percussion sounds are from the trustworthy Elektron MachineDrum.

I wanted to let all tracks have their own place in the mix without anyone stealing focus from the others. It wasn’t a complete success, but I am quite pleased with the results anyway. The sounds are made by the magic of Doepfer, Ableton and Chance.
Stjärnklart
By J.Hedström
I sat down at the piano on a day filled with less joy and more sadness than usual. With no idea or plan I played a few notes. They seemed to belong together, so I repeated them. I added a few more notes, and continued repeating them. Fifteen minutes later I was still playing the same notes, over and over again, while noticing a smile on my face. Stjärnklart means Starry night.
Two channels Operator (Ableton), a pad from Majken’s Chimera and much automation of sounds and effects.

A rhythm completely bended and twisted in various ways plus a couple of pads with a lot of reverb, that’s it. The task clearly taught me that less could, sometimes, be enough.
